Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Las Vegas is among the most electrifying entertainment hubs in the whole world. Its glamour and luxury are the stuff of movies – you have to see it to believe. When most people think of Vegas, images of casinos and gamblers come to mind. But this metropolis has far more to offer than just dice-rolling and card-flipping. Here are some reasons you might want to find your way to Sin City.

Visit Hoover Dam

Experience one of the best examples of American ingenuity, and take an up-close look at the Hoover Dam on one of Las Vegas’s Hoover Dam Tours. The tour is done from the sky in a comfortable and luxurious helicopter.

See the Neon Museum

Las Vegas signature look comes from the neon signs that have graced the city from time immemorial. But, these have been ditched in favour of the more modern LED signs. The Neon Museum attempts to pay homage to these lights that once characterised the Las Vegas you have come to know and love. It is an open-air exhibition and you don’t have to wait in a queue.

Visit Adventuredome Theme Park

If you are having a family vacation in Vegas, your kids will love the adventuredome theme park. The park is found at the Circus Circus Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, and it stretches up to 5 acres. Some of the fun things to do include the Batman Laser Challenge and the traditional carnival carousel. If you need to pump some adrenaline, you can go for the slingshot ride or the Canyon Blaster roller coaster, one of the fastest roller coasters around.

Experience the Las Vegas Strip

It is next to impossible to visit Las Vegas without seeing the Strip. It’s a boulevard lined with luxurious hotels, casinos, and shops. For the fun-seeking traveller, The Strip offers much more than you can handle.

Ace of Adventure: Get a glimpse of the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam while hovering over the strip region in a helicopter. The price starts at $370.

Atomic Testing Museum: Dive into the history of the Nevada atomic bomb testing site. For $9, you will get to see an array of memorabilia including a postcard with the characteristic mushroom cloud of an atomic explosion from the 1950’s.

Gameworks: This is proof that the Las Vegas Strip is not just for gambling adults. This crazy arcade is your kids’ share of fun. It is run by SEGA Entertainment and comes with classic games like Pac Man, and modern titles such as Rambo.

Big Bus Tours: Your eyes couldn’t take in everything there is to see on the Strip in one sitting. But, with Big Bus Tours, you will get to see enough to satisfy your curiosity. They offer an open top tall bus, the perfect way to see as much of the strip as you can.

Free things to do in Vegas

Las Vegas is not all about gambling houses that want to take your money. You can enjoy some great but free attractions as well.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

This is one of the best free attraction Vegas has to offer. Treat your eyes to some stunning views of intricately arranged natural trees, flowers and shrubs. The conservatory is housed in a three-storey glass dome with themes that change according to the time of the year. The themes include Chinese New Year, Harvest, Summer Garden Party, and Spring Celebration.

Mirage volcano

While the Mirage Volcano is manmade, the designers and engineers did such a great job that you will be convinced it’s a real lava-spitting volcano. If you are near enough, your body will get a wave of heat, complete with a scary roar. Although the volcano erupts every day, this is not done frequently so you have to know what times to be there if you want to enjoy this free show.

Calico Basin

This is a beautiful patch of desert that is nestled between the La Madre Mountain and the Calico Hills. There are red and white sandstone cliffs from which three springs of water rise. This water gives life to trees, bushes, and meadows, making the Calico Basin a unique attraction compared to the surrounding desert. You can take a hike and enjoy the natural scenic beauty for free.
